LOGGING

When logging each forest owner is interested to derive a maximum economic benefit. We have developed an optimal model to increase the efficiency of this process.

“Alder” Ltd. offers a complex range of logging services – felling, forest deliveries and transporting away.

Our company works with modern logging equipment. Professional and well-trained employees are essential in logging, in order to properly perform all work that is planned. Proper forest care is the basis for healthy and profitable reforestation.

LOGGING SERVICE PACKAGE INCLUDES:

felling preparations to start work;

coppice cutting;

tree felling, pruning and cross-cut according to specifications given by the customer;

transporting material from felling to stacking area;

transporting.

REFORESTATION

Reforestation is a complex and difficult process which needs careful planning; all works must be carried out in a particular sequence. There are several ways to manage reforestation: artificial planting or seeding or allow the forest to regenerate in a natural way.

Artificial reforestation includes:

soil preparation;

growth fitting – we determine the most suitable planting material for every renewable area separately;

growth protection – basically it is protection against pests by using appropriate chemicals;

growth grooming – removing competing trees and grasses prof the prospective space of tree growth;

forested area cultivation – in some time every coppice forms as a more or less developed set of trees.

By cutting undeveloped and defective trees and leaving the perspective ones we get a coppice, which in future will become a forest with an optimal species composition. This method is used on properties with predictable natural reforestation. Such areas need soil surface scarifying to improve seed germination and regeneration with offsprings.

Careful and professional care allows to grow a high-quality coppice.

Although this method is easier to perform, it isn’t suitable for all areas.

COPPICE CULTIVATION

The main purpose of coppice cultivation is to create a desired tree stand structure with a certain number of trees, which provides trees with sufficient growing space.

If thinning is carried out in timely and properly, it is possible to grow highly productive and sustainable tree stands.

Coppice cultivation is also needed to promote tree species that are most suitable for certain forest growth conditions.

Proper plant choice significantly impacts increase of growing stock, as well as tree trunk quality. Proper coppice cultivation significantly increases tree growth space and reduces forest production cycle time. This means you will reach the desired result by an average of 10 – 20 years; trees have straight and thick trunks, and suffer less from diseases.

Coppice cultivation ensures tree structure and number optimization, promoting tree growth and increasing the future value of forest stand.

Cleaning overgrown ditches, roadsides and transformable areas

Overgrown areas are neglected meadows, roadsides and shrubbery.

We offer:

cleaning away shrubs, branches and small tree overgrowths from agricultural and transformable lands;

combined overgrowth removal and soil preparation in zones for forest stand improvement;

overgrowth removal after fire in coppice and from infrastructure objects – roads and ditch tracks.

FOREST INVENTORY

Taxation preparation

Forest taxation is making forest inventory list which provides information about the tree stand and documentation according with Latvian law system.

Forest management plan is based on forest inventory list.

Forest inventory is essential for carrying out economic activities in the forest.

At least once in 20 years forest owners are obliged to inventory their forest and submit the inventory materials to State Forest Service.

CREATING FIREBREAKS AND TREE MEASUREMENTS

Tree measurements are growing tree diameter measurements, allocation by species and technical validity categories or specific selections.

Tree measurements are essential to determine an exact timber stock in the felling.

During tree measurements we measure diameter and height of all forested land plot trees, the diameter measurement is taken at 1,3 meter height above the root collar.

Tree measurement is aimed to determine tree diameter, species and height.

After summarizing all tree measures forest owner has a precise information on timber volume and value on his property. This ensures owner a control level in forest felling or property sales case.

Creating firebreaks means marking boundaries. Felling boundaries are marked to be clearly visible.

You can consider a tree stand (not older than 20 years), a glade, land (land use type mustn’t be forest), border path, forest infrastructure object as a clearly visible felling boundary. It can also be a felling border paint or tape marked in the area.

Forest owner or legal possessor is responsible for the borders to comply with the sketch that is submitted to State Forest Service.
